Abstract

The relationship between the illness and the psychosocial factors, the high comorbility between the suffering of inflammatory bowel disease and the psychopathology dysfunctions, together with the fact that many patients do not know what to do neither how to face the problems generated by the illness, has motivated to some researchers to develop and to implement psychological intervention programs. The psychological treatment of Inflammatory Bowell Disease “Help! I have been diagnosed with Crohn´s/Ulcerative Colitis” has demonstrated to produce a clinical and statistically significant improvement of the emotional symptoms, that would be explained by the fact that it teaches the patients a series of effective strategies to confront the demands of the illness, facilitating a better adaptation to it, an increase in the quality of life and a decrease of the possible psychological disorders.
